Abstract

The article aims at the study of the notion of “collocation” in Turkish linguistics. The definitions of this linguistic phenomenon in lexicographic sources and scientific works of Turkish authors as well as the main directions and approaches to the study of collocations are considered. The research shows that the main fields of collocation studies in Turkish linguistics are the linguistics of the text, corpus linguistics, and linguodidactics. Though mainly based on the theories of Western linguists, some works make a significant contribution to the study of collocations in the Turkish language. Special attention is paid to the terminology used to describe these language units, their components and properties. It is shown that terminology is a problem not only in the study of collocations, but also in Turkish linguistics in general. The article provides a comparative analysis of English, Russian, and Turkish terminology in this field of knowledge. The study appears to be relevant due to the growth of scientific interest in the study of collocations, which are an integral part of any natural language, but they still have not received a generally accepted definition in scientific literature and do not possess unambiguous status as a language unit. This study is also conditioned by the need for interlingual ordering of linguistic terminology, which is important for the successful development of lexicology and effective professional interaction of linguists from different countries.
