Abstract

The article is devoted to the systematic description of the main images that determine the specification of the internal form of phraseological units with the meaning of emotions in the Russian and Bulgarian languages. Two groups of such units are singled out: including/not including the names of emotions as components. The figurativeness of phraseological units of the first type is based on ontological metaphors that fix the assimilation of emotions to material realities (objects, liquids, etc.). The figurative semantics of stable phrase of the second type is of anthropocentric character: it reflects a naive-linguistic interpretation of emotions based on ideas about various external characteristics of a person. The leading role is played by the metonymic principle, which implies the description of emotions through an indication of the phenomena associated with them. Particularly, an actualization of the somatic cultural code is observed: figurative rethinking and symbolization meet with such names as heart and soul, which in both languages have considerable and significant phrase-forming potential. Similarly, in the composition of emotive phraseological units, numerous names of body parts, internal organs, liquids, integuments, taste and tactile sensations, etc. are actively used. The figurative semantics of a number of emotive phraseological units is based on a subject code that reflects the associative connection of emotions and various material realities, with which certain stereotypical representations are correlated in the minds of speakers of the Russian and Bulgarian languages.
