Abstract

This article is devoted to the review of the main stages of the development of education in Russia, determined by the peculiarities of the economic development of the country. Using an integrated approach, the authors consider issues related to changes in the teaching of foreign languages. At each stage of development, the motivation for learning foreign languages was considered to be of great importance. The study of historical heritage is useful for better understanding the vectors of changes in teaching, which will determine the development of education in this area. The authors study the relationship between the goals of the state and the directions of education development, the latter tries to respond to challenges in accordance with changing goals and objectives. The teaching of foreign languages is integrated into the educational system. However, it may be affected by the changes in relations between this country and the countries the language of which are studied. According to the authors, despite numerous sanctions and restrictions, the deterioration of relations with the EU and the United States, the study of foreign languages should be a priority. At this stage of the socio-economic development of the country, the attitude to teaching and learning foreign languages should change dramatically. As there are changes in priorities and life orientations due to the recent geopolitical situation, it is necessary to take into consideration lessons of the historical past. The authors conclude that the leading role in in the educational process will be played by the demand of digital society for university graduates who are able to speak foreign languages and have skills necessary for successful professional career in a multilingual, multicultural environment.
