Abstract

The authors of the article studied one of the leading categories of text, which permeates all its fragments and can be not only internal, but also external in relation to it. The analysis of the category of coherence shows that its theory is progressively developing and has two main periods: pre-text and text ones. When studying a category of text-based coherence, the important role is played by the theory of linguistic reference and, above all, by its pragmatic aspect. Linguistic means representing the category of coherence in German texts of various discourses are structured in the article according to the field principle. In the center of the field, there are means of coherence that are common for all texts, some neutral referential signals, such as pronouns, correlative conjunctions, numerals. The linguistic means that are more specialized, in particular, terms, are concentrated in the near-nuclear zone. The periphery of the field can be represented by various stylistic means. In order to determine the nuclear and near-nuclear zones, as well as the periphery of the field of the category of coherence in relation to the corresponding type of text, a field approach is also used, due to which the linguistic means representing connectivity in a specific text are appropriately grouped. As the analysis has shown, the selection of linguistic means that contribute to the actualization of the category of coherence is conditioned by the norm of the text, which correlates with its communicative-pragmatic function.
