Abstract

In this article, measurement is considered as a method of empirical level of scientific knowledge, allowing presenting the results of the study in numerical values justified by philosophical and theoretical criteria. The authors of the article studied the relation of measurement as thinking with experiment as type of activity in science. The basic elements of measurement are defined, as well as their structuring and systematization allowing the author to allocate the basic stages in the course of measurement. These stages are definition of a standard, determination of a scale of measurement, correlation of object of measurement and scale of measurement, and interpretation of measurement result. The single dimension is justified as the movement of thought from the abstract to the concrete, from the level of philosophical thinking to the General scientific and natural, which is the realization of the philosophical principle of the unity of the universal, special, and single. The main emphasis is made on the procedural nature of measurement according to the criteria of object, procedural continuity, and causality.
